Scene[]

Paris Holds the Key to Your Heart

"Paris Holds the Key (To Your Heart)" is sung by Sophie while she takes Anya, Dimitri and Vladimir on a tour of Paris before the Russian Ballet. During the sequence, Sophie and the others visit many significant locations and landmarks in Paris, including Chanel, where Anya buys a light-purple dress, and the Eiffel Tower. They are also joined in song by various citizens of Paris, including several young ladies performing the can-can at Moulin Rouge, and an animated cameo of performance icon, Josephine Baker.

Theme[]

The majority of the song is sung by Sophie who is simply describing the several joys and delights of Paris and why it's such a treasured city throughout the world. However, Dimitri's vocals are more subtle and meaningful. Having fallen in love with Anya, Dimitri realizes that if the Dowager Empress Marie confirms that Anya is Anastasia, she will be gone from his life forever, and he will truly miss her.

Style and Composition[]

"Paris Holds the Key (To Your Heart)" is a combination of jazz, pop and ragtime music. It also features a brief sequence where traditional can-can music is heard.
